Hi Guido,
bettercodes is hosted with subversion. Currently we only support SSL connections to any repositories. This means you need to use a url like https://git.bettercodes.org/the-project-slug. We closed all other ports due to security reasons. With help from the community maybe we can change these settings. -

this means, only access over HTTPS is available and my password has to be saved in plain on my computer (When typing ”git remote -v”,the whole adress with username and password is shown…)?
Access over SSH-Public-Keys or just access without typing my password in plain text would be much much better.SSH keys are better for secure hosting. Give us some time to add this feature! Thanks for your answer
Is there any progress on this? At the moment, the lack of an SSH key authorization feature keeps me from using bettercodes. :/
Same reason not to be actively involved .
*bump*
I’m about to quit bettercodes…

+1000 For anonymous code checkout, it’s totally a non sense to not be able to get anonymously open source projects.
I’m planning to close my account here and move on another place if this not happen, and i’m sure i will not be the only one.Hey, nox! You are right…admins should be able to give anonymous read access. Give us a couple of days to add this feature to the project settings. ok?
Hi Bjoern,
Sure i will wait

I know bettercode is quite recent thing – so i know it can take time to do things.
What i wanted is just a confirmation that this will be an available feature
Thanks for the reply.
Cool. We want to make bettercodes.org the most useful and exciting open source developer community on the web. Your requests of any kind are much appreciated. Thank you for being here and providing your ideas for improvement!
Any progress about that task ?
My product using (my) library hosted here is near to be released and so it have to have a working anonymous checkout working.
My deadline comes short, and I may have to move outside bettercode if needed
Br,
We will release an update until tomorrow. Anonymous repo access will be available. Sorry for the delay!
Great to know !
Most of my beta testers are happy now
Hm still not wrking for anonymous git access … how it should be done for that ?
No doc available, no post about that :/
Bettercode really need help for the modules it provides :/yep. I can confirm I cann fetch/clone any code. The authorization is still required.
It makes no sense to me to block OSS repositories for public (if the project administrator does not wish it).
Possibility to explore projects and people also would be fine. I was angry, when entered bettercodes.org page first time, and was seeing only login prompt and info about the site, but, no search box for find interesting project.
But, of course anonymous git is more importantWe use Apache Solr for searching. It has a lot of capabilities. Could you explain more in detail how you would like to ”explore” projects and people?
When I am logined, I see ”Search bettercodes” input, and can search projects, but, if I am not logined, I see only login prompt.

So, any answer on this? I see this was asked 2 years ago but I still don’t seem able to access my repo anonymously.
