In my opinion, the black box argument applies only with proprietary platforms. With open source you can take a look behind the API and see how it works. And APIs make it easier to manage the dependencies and interactions between different plugins, libraries and the main software. But the most important to have the advantages of an API is ofcourse the quality of the API-Design and API-Management.

I think moving this topic to the discussion section would be a good idea. May be others are also interested in a discussion about the pro/contra of APIs.

These are APIs, maybe sometimes not explicit named as APIs, but there are some.

Hey Rolf, we’ve changed the user access settings for the repositories. As a member of the project you will gain full read access. This will take only a few days. Don’t be angry with us…bettercodes is really open and free. Cheers!

wow thats better now.
there are still two really bad bugs, i already made tasks for in Bettercodes-Project.
the invite form is accessible for non-authenticated users,
i can add myself to any hidden or private project just with a special url.

for me it worked on the page but after a pagereload the messages are still marked as unread. it doesn’t get stored.
